Terms and Conditions (therapy agreement)

This agreement is between Joanna Hassan, trading as Root & Rise Therapy, and the client. It outlines how we will work together and what you can expect from therapy. It is designed to support clarity, safety and good practice for both of us.

Sessions

  • Individual psychotherapy: 60 minutes

  • Creative Supervision: 90 minutes

  • Couples Counselling: 90 minutes

Sessions are usually weekly at a consistent time, unless we have agreed otherwise.
We begin and end on time to maintain the therapeutic frame.
Please silence your phone during sessions.

I am unable to work with you if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

I am not an emergency service, if you require urgent support, please contact your GP, NHs 111 (press 2), or emergency services.

  • Individual therapy: £70 per 60-minute session

  • Couples therapy: £95 per session per 90-minute session

  • Clinical supervision: £90 per 90-minute session

Payment is made by bank transfer prior to each appointment. If payment has not been received prior to the session, the appointment may be cancelled.

Concession Rates

Reduced fees are available for:

  • NHS employees

  • Teachers

  • Students

  • Trainee counsellors/psychotherapists

Concession rates are offered at my discretion, are subject to availability and will be reviewed regularly.

Evidence of eligibility (eg. NHS employment, student status or training enrolment) may be requested before concession rates are applied.

A free 20-minute initial phone conversation is offered to help us determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

Online Sessions

Online sessions are conducted via Microsoft Teams, a secure video platform.

When working online, please ensure:

  • You are in a private space where you cannot be overheard

  • Your device is charged and your internet connection is stable

  • Headphones are used where possible for added confidentiality

  • Your device and software are protected and up-to-date

If video connection fails, we will continue the session by telephone where appropriate.

Cancellation Policy

  • Please give 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.

  • Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged in full. This applies regardless of the reason for cancellation.

  • If I need to cancel due to illness, emergencies or training, I will give as much notice as possible and offer an alternative session.

Confidentiality

Everything shared in therapy is confidential, except in exceptional circumstances such as:

  • risk of harm to self or others

  • safeguarding concerns

  • legal obligations (e.g., court orders)

  • supervision (your identity remains protected)

We will discuss confidentiality in more depth during your first session.

Professional Boundaries

To maintain a clear and safe therapeutic relationship:

  • I cannot accept social media requests or engage socially with clients

  • Contact between sessions is limited to practical arrangements

  • If we meet in public, I will only acknowledge you if you initiate contact

Ending Therapy

We will review our work regularly.
You may choose to end therapy at any time. A planned ending is recommended so that we can reflect on your progress and close the work safely and thoughtfully.

Ethical Practice

I work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework, receive regular clinical supervision, and engage in ongoing professional development to ensure safe and effective practice.

If you have any concerns about my practice, we will first aim to resolve them together. If this is not possible, you may contact the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
